Description Cameron Dry 2005-03-06 05:14:29 UTC
Slimserver crashed twice in 4 hours on WinXP Professional with the following
event viewer output:

Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the
/AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details.
The following information is part of the event: Can't use an undefined value as
an ARRAY reference at /PerlApp/Slim/Utils/Scan.pm line 196.

.

Restarting the service fixed the problem. On both occasions a rescan of the
music library had been requested.

Cameron - have you tried the 6.0a2 release? Or the recent nightlies? This should be fixed there.

Thanks.

Hi Dan

Both the 6.0a2 and 5.4.1 latest nightly builds (from around March 6) exhibited
this problem. Since submitting the bug, I have installed ActivePerl and used the
5.4.1 .tar.gz version, which has resolved the issue. Additionally, there is an
unbelievable improvement in both stability and speed using this method over the
.exe for Win32.

Thanks

Cameron

The reason I ask is that the line numbers in the error message don't make any sense to me.

Could you try the latest 6.0 nightly build? That's where we are focusing all our effort.

Thanks.

Cameron - have you had a chance to try the latest 6.0 nightly build?

If running with ActiveState, can you do: perl slimserver.pl --d_scan ?

Thanks.

Hi Dan

This problem is only present in the .exe versions (both 5.4.0, 5.4.1 and 6.0).
None of the Activestate versions that I have tried (5.4.1 and 6.0) are affected.

Regards

Cameron

Cameron - do you happen to have any Windows Shortcuts (.lnk files) that point to
bogus locations, like an unmounted network share?

What is the line number of the crash on a recent 6.0 build?

Thanks.

Cameron - I'm going to close this bug for now.

Please reopen if you have this issue in 6.0.1

Thanks.

Closing forgotten fixed bug

Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
