Bugzilla – Bug 9556
Additional (more) functionality for presets
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:24:22 UTC
Why can't the presets be made to double function, ie two quick presses of button one will bring up channel 7 and so forth, so that would give us 12 channels? As for storing on the device, the once you hold down the preset to save, it could prompt for press again to assign to channel 7. Just a thought to expand the user experience with something that could be done in software.
Targeting Enhancement bugs
Great idea. What would be great is to be able to assign say 3 presets to each preset button. Then you could cycle between the 3 presets by pressing each preset button once, twice or three times - with a fourth press cycling you back to the first station assigned to that button. This would give us 18 Presets without any change to the hardware.

Many people in the forums and beta community have requested this expansion of Presets to more then 6
Submitted to Matt Weldon for his consideration.
I like the thinking behind this. We are, however, looking at solving a lot of issues with hardware buttons across all devices. I want to reserve judgement on this one for a few more weeks until we get some more things sorted out. Targeting for 8.0.1 since the design sync-up of different models will not make it for 8.0...
A suggestion for this is to have, by default (or as a configurable param), the 6th preset actually take you to the Favorites menu, since presets are just a quick way to get to a particular favorite. The behavior of this preset button (and any preset button) could be modified via the Shortcuts page. I think the idea of using double/triple tap is just inviting confusion for inexperienced users.
I previously used a Roku Soundbridge Radio which worked using 3 presets per button. It also offered a second alternative, it had a kind of "shift" key that switched between A/B/C, tap shift to toggle between set A/B/C of presets. I didn't use that method much - I just got used to tapping once twice or three times on each preset to get the station I wanted. It actually worked pretty well. I think people are already used to that kind of functionality from other "radios" like car radios etc that have used multi presets per button (for different radio bands). The reason this functionality is useful is that unlike the other units in the Squeezebox range, the boom is used by many as a bedside clock radio. In this role, reaching out and pressing buttons blindly is fairly typical. Navigating menu's is not ideal. In the living room its a different story.
Here is one suggestion from a Beta User: "I would rather the "More" button be configured to add additional presets to the 6. i.e. Press the first Preset to get preset #1. Press the More button once and then the first preset to toggle between presets #1, #7, #13, #19 and back to #1 (if the unit can store 24 presets). I know that I have harped on the lack of presets an awful lot but it’s a big deal for me."
Another suggestion a user had, was to make the #6 preset open the Favorites Menu, so you could scroll / select ANY of your favorites
Personally I'd like to see a Favorites button on the IR remote as well as expanding the "MORE" "+" button on the Front Panel to have quick access to the Favorites so people can just tap that and get to which ever preset they want. Fast and Simple, easy for people to understand :)
