Bugzilla – Bug 9546
Add option to suppress scrobbling of internet radio
Last modified: 2009-07-31 10:30:09 UTC
Scrobbling of tracks played on internet radio - even though they are marked as Radio in the submission, results in the track information appearing in the last.fm historical profile (not just the "Now Listening".) There are 2 issues with this: a) It is very easy to find stations that have metadata that meets the submission criteria (broadly, a single occurrence of " - " plus more than a minimum length) but is not artist/track information. This makes a real mess of the profile and also adds junk artists to the last.fm database b) The tracks played on an internet radio station are not selected by the listener and the listener might not want them on the profile. Deleting them via the last.fm web site is a time-consuming pain. Suggestions: Simple one - make submission of internet radio plays optional - so that it can be disabled by discerning users (could even default it to "off" because of the junk that it can submit). More complex - flag certain stations as valid for submission - allow regular expression to be specified per station to filter the metadata Increasing the minimum duration would probably remove some of the junk (e.g. 31 second adverts). This has become more of an issue since Last.fm doesn't appear willing to fix the problem on their side.
Added in 7.2.1 change 23256.
