Description Dylan Rhodes 2008-09-15 21:40:01 UTC
The SN setup process includes a final screen that offers the user a link to download SC. The SC download is presented as optional.

We encountered a customer who skipped this step not because she's not interested in SC, but because she figured she could download it later, and just wanted to complete SN setup so she could get her Controller working.

Later, when she went to SN to continue the process and download SC, she couldn't find a link to download SC. I'm aware that one can eventually drill through to get to slimdevices.com and download it, but unsophisticated users may expect to go back to SN and easily catch up with steps that they skipped during setup.

Thus I suggest an enhancement to the SN home page with a clear link labeled "SqueezeCenter". The link can go to a page that briefly explains what SC is (and how it differs from SN), along with a link to download the latest version. That way, this page will be of use to three groups of people:

1. Newbie SN installers who skipped the SC download the first time and want to complete their product installation
2. Relative newbies who are still unclear on the SN/SC relationship
3. Established users who just want to download SC for whatever reason -- to get the most recent version, to download it for a new PC, etc.

The whole sign up process is being redesigned by Brian/Matt. This page hopefully will go away.

There is now a 'Download SqueezeCenter' tab in SqueezeNetwork.
