Description Jan 2008-09-12 12:32:32 UTC
Hello,

Since I updated to the latest version of Squeezecenter (7.2) the following happens:
- I power on the SB3 without a running SC and without active internet connection.
- SB3 tells me, that SC cannot be found (This is of course correct because SC is not running).
- But that message keeps keeps scrolling all the time. This is quite irritating for me, because it often happens, that I power on the SB together with my other AV stuff, but without starting the SC or the internet connection.

In the former SC version (7.0 for me) the screen became blank after showing this message once. This was perfect.

Please also take a look into the forums, where this has been discussed too:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=339692

If this is intended behaviour, please at least consider to make it configurable...

In the olden days, we used to have a message that said 'Can't find Squeezecenter' that would be displayed for a certain amount of time. After that the screen would go blank.

This seems like a good solution to me. Comments?

Yes, that would be perfect.

This change in behavior is detailed in bug 3958. If we switch to a timed error post-setup I'd just want that delay to be useful for debugging customer issues. Say, 30-60 seconds? I never envisioned the error remaining permanently after a successful setup. Only during the setup process.

Felix will add the timeout and we'll see how people like it.

Related with this issue, I hit another minor problem today:
If you press power to send a WOL packet too early after connecting the SB3 to the mains (during Logitech logo or when display says "press right arrow for setup"), you'll get into setup, although you really didn't want to. And most annoying: There's no easy way out of this setup-menu. A hard power-cycle once again is the fastest way I found.

Well, you'll need to wait until the player tries to connect to SC before you press power to send a WOL packet. If you accidentally pressed power too early you end up in setup mode where you also should be able to select your SC and try to connect to it, then press power.

Added 30 second timeout for error messages. After that time SB3 / TR display goes dark, Boom display shows RTC clock.

Pressing a button will show the message again for about 30 seconds.

Fixed in rev5007, will be in SB3 fw 117, TR fw 67, SBB fw 37

Where can I get those firmware revisions? Latest 7.3 nightly builds still include SB3 FW116.

This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.0 release version of SqueezeCenter!

Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already.

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
