Bugzilla – Bug 9445
Dimming fails when Boom goes off the network completely
Last modified: 2008-10-03 08:19:21 UTC
My boom was connected via wireless to squeezenetwork. During the night my DHCP server died (as well as DNS) and Boom went off line. The clock correctly displayed BUT at full brightness and with all the buttons illuminated, waking me up. When in disconnected clock mode, the power button should be the only one illuminated and the screen should be dimmed under the same parameters as when it was last connected.
I simulated a failing DHCP server but didn't see the display to change to full brightness. During the time (several hours) I removed the DHCP server from the network Boom would always show the clock and still react to ambient light changes. DHCP lease time was set to 10 minutes. (Apple AirPort) Could QA please check if they can reproduce the situation Dean encountered? The second part is already a separate bug 9292.
I don't know if it's related, but I've had several incidents where the dimming was not working normally on my Boom. I don't have many details since it usually occurs in the night when I am groggy, but I have written about it in this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53017 I know at least once it happened after a connection to Squeezecenter was lost and then restored. In my case, the display would still react to ambient light changes, but it didn't go as dim as it usually would until I went to all three brightness settings and changed them to manual and then back to automatic.
Using FW 33 I am able to confirm that the Ambient light sensor is working properly when in disconnected state. I am also able to confirm that all back light buttons change with the ambient sensor state. I.E. when dim, buttons are dim. when high, buttons are high. Dean/Sue: please retest with FW32 or higher.
My issue was only with the dimming. I updated to FW33 a few days ago and have not had any problems since then, though I have to had a chance to take my server offline to specifically test it.
