Description Jim Knepley 2005-03-02 18:28:11 UTC
We've got these beautiful sliding transitions, but the scrolling on the "Now
Playing" screen animation is the old, relatively chunky, style. The latter looks
unpolished in comparison.

Now that I think about it, switching between menu items would look really nicely
polished if the it used the sliding animation as well (except it'd be vertical
and not horizontal).

Not going to make it for 6.0, will address asap.

Reducing the scroll pixels to 1 (and the scroll rate correspondingly to 0.0214 and 0.0143 for single and double size, respectively) goes a long way towards making the display look much nicer when scrolling the Now Playing information. However, there's still the occasional pause in the text due to wi-fi congestion perhaps every 10 20 seconds for a fraction of a second.

If the SB2/3 hardware could handle the scrolling in hardware, thered be no pausing. I know Slim Devices is called that for a reason - and this *is* an increase in the thickness of the SB2/2 - but its only a small increase in client functionality along the lines of the existing animation.

I love the sound of this!

Scrolling of long titles in Now Playing does indeed look really good with the suggested scroll rates, but this does make wi-fi related pauses look particularly clunky.

Is this still a possibility?

Is this actually feasible ?
I had to deactivate scrolling because it does look ugly, and if I change the settings (higher "refresh rate" and 1 or 2px at a time) on my wifi g network it hangs from time to time. Hardware scrolling would be really nice.

(in the meantime, the titleswitcher plugin does the trick for me ^^)

All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform.
We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or
which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
