Bugzilla – Bug 9331
Display indication that Boom has lost contact with the server
Last modified: 2010-05-07 10:20:02 UTC
With the off screensaver set to time, large, no seconds and if an alarm is due a little bell icon on the right - if Boom loses contact with the server, its display reverts to exactly the same thing. So it's impossible to tell by looking at the display. Could there be some indication that Boom is operating in backup mode? Something that wouldn't be displayed under normal conditions and an indication to the user to check their server? Maybe not a custom icon as that requires a font change and would have to be explained.
This would be a useful addition for the alarm functionality, making it much easier to quickly check things are okay before going to bed.

I like Peter's suggestion of using a flashing ":" in the time to indicate loss of contact with the server. Perhaps the whole time display could flash? This might be annoying but if only the ":" is flashing, this matches with many other digital clocks' displays and is normal operation for them so only experienced users could spot it. Maybe the ":" could flash but at a rapid rate (more than once a second) which would look unusual even to inexperienced users. 2-3 flashes per second would instantly look "wrong" to anybody without even thinking about it. Flashing indicators on the display is better than the introduction of a "disconnected" icon which would require an explanation anyway and which would require font changes.
Hi, please don't make the complete clock flash. Many users might turn off their servers during night for energy saving reasons. Especially if the enhancement request https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7995 is beeing implemented. With this it isn't necessarily 'wrong' if the connection to the server is lost. So an indication is needed, but i would prefer an icon or the flashing of the :, but only once per second. BR, Michael
Targeting Enhancement bugs
All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform. We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
