Bugzilla – Bug 9304
No audio output from transporter after firmware change(s)
Last modified: 2008-08-27 12:16:43 UTC
My setup is readynas running slimserver 6.5, transporter, and lyngdorf digital pre-amp dpa1 and millennium power dac. Transporter is connected to dpa1 using aes/ebu connection. Everything worked fine, until I tried to install squeeze-center 7.1 on my vista pc. When starting squeeze-center and connecting to transporter, a firmware change occured, and still everything works fine. later, I wanted to go back using slimserver on the readynas. Another firmware change occurred, and even the display seems normal, music playing, there is NO output on the aes/ebu, and also not on the unbalanced digital and not on the analog outputs. To test, I closed the readynas and started squeezecenter on the pc. New firmaware change (version 50), and now it works again! I then got the idea to install squeezecenter on the readynas, and installed version 7.0.1 (no 7.1 available?). Again, firmware change (version 37), but again no music. I have also tried to do a firmware reset to factory default settings, but that didn't help anything. I have run out of ideas to resolve this, and would very much like some help on this issue. Some time ago, I had different versions of slimserver on the pc and the readynas, and this also led to firmaware changes when changing between the 2 levels of slimserver, but no problems with transporter at that time. By the way, why is it necessary to 'downgrade' the firmware when changing to an older server version, aren't the new versions downward compatible? To make sure, that the descripton here is accurate, I have tried the entire process again, with the same result, so hopefully it should be possible to recreate the problem.
Try reprogramming the xilinx chip by pressing and holding the '1' button while plugging in the power cable. fw versions are tied to slimproto, which can have subtle changes among SqueezeCentre versions. Thus, the firmware is tied to the version of the server software.
Thank you for the idea to re-program the xilinx chip (by the way, which functions does this chip perform?). First I tried to do it with firmware 50 active, and after downgrading to firmware 37. there was still no audio. I then did another xilinx reprgram, and now audio came on again! This procedure is as far as I can see not described in the manual, so I hope it is a temporary condition, that it is necessary to do this.
