Description Mickey Gee 2008-08-20 09:28:47 UTC
For the last 3-4 months, with various nightly versions of SC 7.1 and 7.2, when I configure a SB Controller I do not see the name of the PC running SC on the "Choose Music Source" screen. To configure the Controller to see SC, the workaround has been to enter in the IP address of the PC running SC. Once I do that, that SC is seen and I can proceed and choose a player.

It was working fine in this regard before then and had never been an issue.

This problem persisted even after I swapped out the Linksys BEFW11S4 router with a Linksys WRT54G V4 router running Tomato 1.19 firmware.

Other than the router, the configuration hasn't changed for about a year. Here's the current configuration:

- Thinkpad with 600MHz Celeron, 192MB RAM, Windows 2000 SP4
- Above router running WEP64

I need to gather more info at home. I've not tried wiping out the SC configuration and starting over or turning on logging. I don't remember if I see SqueezeNetwork as an option on the Music Source screen. Sorry but at home the goal is to keep SC running to keep my kids supplied with music!

Any firewall software on that PC, mickey?
Comment 2 Mickey Gee 2008-08-20 13:14:02 UTC
Nope, no firewall software at all. It basically has just OS and SC on it.
Comment 3 Blackketter Dean 2008-08-20 13:16:07 UTC
Ross: Can you try to reproduce on Win2k SP4?

Mickey: Can you bring this bad boy in the office?

No need to bring it in Mickey, easily reproduced on a Win2k sp4 virtual image. Install SqueezeCenter 7.2 - 22869. However SB3 also does not see SqueezeCenter. I don't see any firewall and I searched, doesn't seem like there is a firewall in SP4.

Ok, can you get some logging and/or sniffing on this, Ross?

sniff

Sniff of SB3 connecting to network but not seeing the windows 2000 source.
Comment 7 Ross Levine 2008-10-02 16:21:08 UTC
I looked at the sniff and compared it with a sniff of a SB3 setup succeeding (xp) but I wasn't able to see a significant difference. Let me know if more research from QA is needed.

Ross, can you follow up with Dean to see what else needs to be done, as well who this bug should be assigned to.
Comment 9 Ross Levine 2008-10-17 14:50:35 UTC
Ping Dean.

Richard: Any idea?
Comment 11 Ross Levine 2008-10-22 13:26:10 UTC
This is not Controller specific.
Comment 12 Richard Titmuss 2008-11-12 14:40:11 UTC
Looking at the sniff it appears that no Discovery Response packets are sent. I think someone needs to check in SC to see if the Win2K is somehow blocking the incoming or outgoing packets.

I'm not really the best person to look at this, maybe you Michael?

Comment 13 Michael Herger 2008-11-13 04:42:22 UTC
Dan - is this a known issues with "real life" customers? Is w2k still being used?

I can confirm w2k based machines don't show up neither on the player's server list nor on Controller.
Comment 14 Michael Herger 2008-11-17 10:33:17 UTC
Change 23948 - Windows 2000 is getting confused with multiple UDP broadcasts. Disable server detection on Windows 2000 in favor of player detection.

Verified to be working in 7.3 - 23961, Mickey let us know if it doesn't work at home. Thanks Michael! :-)
Comment 16 James Richardson 2008-12-15 12:36:49 UTC
This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.0 release version of SqueezeCenter!

Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already.

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.

Reduce number of active targets for SC
