Bugzilla – Bug 9217
Netgear RangeMax Duo Wireless-N Router WNDR3300 connection issues
Last modified: 2009-06-03 09:43:37 UTC
Customer is not able to connect to his WNDR3300 with his Duet. Had customer take his Duet to a different network and everything connected fine on the first try. Tried many different settings with the WNDR3300 and it just will not connect. CC'ing Ross to see if we can get this router and test it here on our end. RN ticket # 080811-000700
James to help me acquire.
Hi all, could you please give me an update on when you think I can get some feedback on this? I would like to get some resolution soon, or I'd like to understand where to send the device to get my money back. Thanks, David
David, if you want a refund please contact Anoop@slimdevices.com and he will take care of it. We have ordered the WNDR3300 and it should arrive this week. Once it arrives we will research the issue in more detail and update this bug. I cannot promise when the bug will be resolved but it is targeted for the 7.3 Squeeze Center release.
I guess I am hoping that when you get the device that there is a workaround that can get it to connect until the 'bug' is fixed in a software release. Is the timeframe for v7.3 likely to be measured in days, weeks, or months? Thanks.

Ross, James - thanks. I haven't resorted to the ethernet/bridged mode in an effort to avoid drilling a lot of holes in my house to route a long cable to where the stereo is, but it may come to that. In terms of the WEP/WPA security, I did try turning off all the security, but that didn't help in getting the controller to connect.
David I have the WNDR3300 in house and I'm able to test it. However I'm not able to reproduce the issue you're describing, at least with factory default settings. I've enabled WPA + WPA2, as well as WPA2 only, Duet connects and works fine with r2873. David, what version is on your controller? I'm not seeing issues with 7.2 r2873. Have you tried factory resetting the router?
If I understand you correctly, I checked the version on the controller and it said "v7.0.1 r2448". If I should update this, could you please let me know the best way to do this (i.e., is it setting it up via bridge mode?). I have been through a factory reset on the router, but can try it again.
David: Please download SqueezeCenter 7.2 from this location: http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html Install this version onto your system. Then, set your router for NO security (temporary) Do a Factory reset on the Duet (both the Receiver and Controller) Walk through the setup once more for the duet. Verify that the Duet can connect to your router, and SqueezeCenter. If that works, then re-enable WPA or WPA2 security on your router Re-Set your Duet (both the Receiver and Controller) Walk through the setup once more for the duet. Verify that the Duet can connect to your router, and SqueezeCenter. Please let us know if this does or does not work for you. --------------- Ross: please try SC 7.0.1 as well as 7.1 & FW r2248/r18
Thanks. I will run through this and let you know how it goes.
(In reply to comment #10) > Ross: please try SC 7.0.1 as well as 7.1 & FW r2248/r18 I'm able to reproduce this problem with r2448 and fw 18. However this works fine after firmware 18. I'm sure once David has a chance to update to current firmware and share his findings we should be able to wrap up this bug.
Thanks for the direction... Trying to update the firmware/software but having trouble now getting it to bridge in order to do this. I have spent two+ hours tonight trying to get the receiver to connect via ethernet cable, and the router just doesn't see it. When I initiate a factory reset of the router, there is a bunch of 'activity' flashing on the receiver ethernet cable, but then this stops and there is just that solid orange connection indicator. Tried 2 different ethernet cables, all 4 jacks on the router, factory resets of both router and the receiver and that red light on the front of the receiver just keeps blinking red. I previously was able to connect this way, do not know why I am now unable to. Thanks.
Alright... I actually have no idea what I did, but through some combination of retrograding the router's firmware and re-installing the latest, and happening to run through the motions with the controller again.... it somehow worked. Never got the bridge function to work (not sure why/how), but it seems to be running now on my wireless network - it has updated its software to the latest version (7.2 r2873 root@debian-build #38)... I will attempt to get the system moved to my stereo tomorrow (as it is plugged in immediately next to my computer, but am encouraged. Hopefully I don't 'lose it all' when I cycle the power moving it downstairs. I will report back to let you know how that goes. Thanks everyone.
Works post 7.1. If anyone else has issues with this router please feel free to re-open.
