Bugzilla – Bug 900
visualizer lag when playing flac
Last modified: 2011-03-16 04:18:43 UTC
the visualizer seems to lag once in a while when playing flac. it's not severe, but it is noticeable. if you set the same file to transcode to mp3, the visualizer is quick and responsive
you've already improved this bigtime. should we close?
Yes, measured framerates of about 20fps...a little slower than MP3 (which can almost hit the requested 30fps), but pretty acceptable.
Bug is marked as being Mac specific (os X 10.3 specific as well) but it's hard to imagine that's true).
Richard Titmuss's comments from http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=142755&postcount=93 "For the 6.5 firmware I spent some time optimising the FLAC decoder so that we could support 24/96 playback. This means we now get nearly the same visualizer frame rate for both FLAC and mp3. The problem now is actually one of jitter due to the way the two decoders output the pcm samples. To fix this would mean moving the visualizers to a different thread in the firmware."
Not required for 6.5.1
Reassigning Squeezebox firmware bugs to Felix.
All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform. We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
