Description Osama Zaidan 2008-07-10 09:26:27 UTC
Support has a report of trouble with a Belkin N1 Model F5D8231-4 router.Text from ticket: (080701-000352)

"PROBLEM - Duet – Losses connection, wireless network

NOTES
Router info
 - connecting wirelessly
 - WEP encryption 64-bit
 - Updated with latest firmware

...

Support worked with this customer extensively but could not get his Duet connected successfully to this router.

We replaced the Controller, but the replacement we sent out would still not connect to the router.

Customer got a new Dlink router the Duet connected successfully on the first try.
Comment 1 Chris Owens 2008-07-14 10:04:48 UTC
Ross to acquire the router and test.
Comment 2 Ross Levine 2008-07-14 13:49:01 UTC
Interesting we're using wep 64 at home with our Belkin F5D8233-4 v3. I'll take a look tonight with Duet.
Comment 3 Ross Levine 2008-07-14 15:51:39 UTC
This router is N1, James ordered one for me, thanks James! Update to come.
Comment 4 Ross Levine 2008-07-30 12:50:48 UTC
SBC 1425 SBR fw 18 connected to F5D8243-4 with WEP 64 and updated just fine.

Feel free to re-open but I'm not seeing any issues.
Comment 5 Ross Levine 2008-09-04 16:12:45 UTC
I'm able to consistently reproduce this with one of our Belkin routers here in QA. The Belkin F5D8231-4 v.1100. I cannot reproduce it with the very same model v.5000.
Comment 6 Ross Levine 2008-10-13 13:23:30 UTC
Richard, let me know if you'd like me to ship this router to you.
Comment 7 Richard Titmuss 2008-11-10 04:55:40 UTC
Moving to 7.3.1
Comment 8 James Richardson 2008-12-19 08:01:45 UTC
Changing target to next release

Hello Guys,

Per Dan, I am adding the following information to this bug.

We have had users reporting that the Squeezebox Controller would randomly drop connections with the Belkin N F5D8231-4 v3 and Belkin N F5D8233-4 v3.

These customers did not have any "N" devices on their network, so they have changed their router's Bandwidth settings from "20MHz+40MHz auto" to "20 MHZ". This has been a workaround to this Squeezebox Controller connectivity issue, and has resolved the problem for these few customers.

This setting is in the router under the following location:

Wireless >Channel and SSID

When set at 20MHz only:
Setting the Router to this mode allows only 20MHz operation. This
mode is compatible with N1, draft 802.11n-, 802.11g-, and
802.11b-compliant devices, but will limit N1, draft 802.11n-compliant
devices’ bandwidth by half. Reducing bandwidth to 20MHz-only
operation might solve some wireless problems.

***Please note that this has only been a workaround for those customers who are not using any N devices*****

Thanks,

LaRon

Maybe Richard can find something helpful here. Controller appears to connect fine to Belkin F5D8231-4 v1100 (firmware 1.01.23) but when it goes to connect Controller this problem happens. Receiver remains blinking red.

We are now planning to make a 7.3.3 release. Please review your bugs (all marked open against 7.3.3) to see if they can be fixed in the next few weeks, or if they should be retargeted for 7.4 or future.

Thanks!
Comment 12 Chris Owens 2009-03-30 17:18:56 UTC
Since there's now a planned 7.3.3 release, bugs which won't make the cut-off are being moved to the next target out. If you feel that this bug needs to be addressed more (or less) urgently than the 7.4 release, please cc chris@slimdevices.com and leave a comment in the bug to that effect so we can review it.

Thanks.

I'm not able to reproduce this with r5151! (Belkin F5D6231-4 V.2000)

Anoop, does Tier 2 support hear much about Controller / Duet setup issues? Or anything specific to Belkin routers?
Comment 14 Anoop Mehta 2009-04-06 17:12:03 UTC
I would not say we see anything specific to the Belkin routers. But then again this bug was created due to a specific Belkin router and so was Larons issues.

Laron what is your take on this?
Comment 15 Walker LaRon 2009-04-07 11:45:32 UTC
Hello All,

I have only seen these weird set up issue with the Belkin N F5D8231-4 v3 and Belkin N F5D8233-4 v3, and haven't really seen this recently. I do believe that updating the router's firmware may help this issue, or, it could be the new r3993 that has helped this issue.

Fixed in 7.3.3 - r5225. If you've experienced this bug please update to latest nightly 7.3.3 build. Install the new version of SqueezeCenter, update your Duet firmware, factory reset both Controller and Receiver and setup one more time. Please post here in the bug with your findings.

7.3.3 nightly download here:
