Bugzilla – Bug 8623
wrong firmware upgrade info reported by SN
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:26:46 UTC
hi, forgive me if this is a known issue. but i have version 7.1 r2551 on my SBC. i don't know where it came from, but i am using a new nightly of 7.1, last day or two. in any case, i had the SBC connect my SB2 to SN, and once it did, i did a software upgrade check. it says "updated software is available for this remote, ...update to version 7.0.1 r2448" so the issue obviously is that its trying to get me to put OLDER fw on, and that it is incorrectly calling this older fw newer. i think the SBC should not just assume a mismatch means whats being offered is newer.
Dean: Should we come up with better wording for the controller when the firmware is mismatched? How about "You currently have version X.XX If you'd like to install version X.XX choose Begin Update"
is it impossible for the logic to determine anything other than simple mismatch? so that it would know if something was actually newer or not?
I'm a little concerned that we were forcing a downgrade. Was this appropriate?
It wasn't forced, if you manually go to Software Update it will give you the latest 'production' version, which happens to be 7.0.1 r2448.
yes, i'm sorry if i was unclear on that... it was NOT forced. i went to the upgrade on SN manually. however, i do not see this bug as "Invalid" in any kind of way and i think it should be reopened and dealt with. the fact remains that SN says its fw is newer and offers to put on older fw. shouldn't we stop that from being able to happen if at all possible?
