Bugzilla – Bug 8608
Loud POP from Boom's speakers while playing music
Last modified: 2008-12-15 12:39:21 UTC
While testing Boom this weekend I periodically heard a loud or soft POP sound while playing music. It was happening about once per hour. This was with a PQP2 Boom, connected to SC 7.2 built 6/27.
I've never of heard that. Can you repeat it? Can you record it? That would be helpful.
Not sure if I can record it, but I'll see if I can reproduce easily.
I was at home and this happened again. It happened directly *after* my router reset itself it. Possibly when the Boom reconnected to the server? It was mid-song when this happened and I don't know if it got to the end of its buffer and popped, or it was simply reconnecting to the server. It was *loud*. :(
Dan can I trade you for your Boom and see if it's hardware-specific? Thanks.
I'll bring it in tomorrow.
FYI, I did hear that POP a couple more times over the weekend. Once it happened after the router reset, once it happened while everything was running smoothly. Also, my wife reported the Boom made "a very, very loud squealing sound" once over the weekend. I was not there so did not hear or investigate. The way she described it it sounded like that *very* loud squeal Caleb and Steven heard a week or two ago.
I can now recreate this loud noise semi-regularly on a *different* Boom-- PQP3 running fw 18. Steps to recreate: 1. Connect Boom to a SC 2. Start playing a song 3. Unplug the router for 10 sec and plug back in. 4. Boom goes through a variety of states now-- + the screen goes black + song continues to play + song stops playing + "Updating DSP" bar starts and sometimes repeats 2-8 times 5. During the repeated DSP updates I hear a soft noise 80% of the time and loud noise 20% of the time. 6. Boom's display shows the Now Playing screen, and the song may or may not begin playing from the beginning.
Problem is that we were doing: program DSP -> unmute -> set volume. This causes a short burst of maximum volume music playing.
Fixed in r4485.
Verified functioning properly with r19 & 7.2-22118
