Bugzilla – Bug 8523
slideshow applet needs 7.1 rework after SlimDiscovery refactoring
Last modified: 2010-05-27 09:12:44 UTC
Richard checked in a fairly involved change to 7.1 circa June 19. There will be some effort in fixing the POS slideshow applet to conform to the new standards (particularly with the custom SqueezeboxJiveApplet that I overwrite in the course of running this applet) This will only be an issue when 7.1 firmwares start being put on POS units coming from China. We're a ways from that right now...
r2681 has 7.1-specific changes to support the POS slideshow. As soon as 7.1-based POS units are built, please get me one so I can test with it. So far I tested these changes with a regular Jive running 7.1 r2679 and it worked fine.
This bug has now been fixed in the 7.1 release version of SqueezeCenter! Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com if you haven't already. If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
Most definitely not fixed. MikeD: we discussed this in campfire Friday, June 20, and this is what I opened to track the issue. It appears to have been ignored, now that the 210 or so POP units shipped to Europe with no assistance from Engineering (re: me). I'd still like to get my hands on one of these new units a.s.a.p. ramping up to critical
Is there anything we can do to move this issue forward?
Yes, Mike Dilley needs to get me a POP unit so I can test with it. FYI, this issue is not at all gating to a general 7.2.1 release, but I feel it's properly targeted because it needs to be looked at a.s.a.p. I asked for one of these units many months ago and have yet to receive one. There is a very real possibility the slideshow applet won't work when 7.2+-based POP units are used, which is the case with the latest batch that were manufactured.
I have one of the new POP units (just the PCB and screen, no plastics) here. I made a change to one of the file names (squeezeos-boot.sh) and ran the slideshow viewer for 4 days on the new POP unit. The new slideshow viewer software has also been running on a production unit for 2 weeks. Ben, If you would like I can send the POP unit to you for testing, let me know.
..."changed a file name to squeezeos-boot.sh"... Q: did the SD cards loaded on to the Europe units also get this change? If you want my help maintaining this code, I should have one of these units, and I've been exceedingly vocal on that. I'll leave it up to you whether you want that help. It's marketing's gig, I'm just trying to provide engineering support.
I have hardware now-- assigning back to me, and target as monitor to get it off the 7.2.1 list.
this bug is long dead
