Description Blackketter Dean 2008-06-19 13:23:18 UTC
We've gotten feedback from folks that the press and hold of the preset buttons don't do what they expect. Currently, holding the button creates a preset for the item that is currently being displayed, not the item currently playing (unless you are on the now playing screen).

I propose that we change the behavior to create a preset for the thing currently playing, no matter where you are currently navigated to.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty surprised that people are are getting confused, I set up a little paper prototype here and tested it with 5 or 6 of the people we're staying with. Everyone seemed to think that the preset should be whatever you've navigated to. How much feedback have we had against this?

Is this a duplicate of bug 8482?

Can I suggest that the current behaviour is maintained or is at least selectable via a preference.

It would be nice for the 6 preset buttons to be soft keys that other functions can be assigned to.

#1 on mine will definitely become Random Mix -> Song Mix.

I've also suggested other uses for new alarm functionality.

Postpone/Cancel next alarm.

Postpone/Cancel remainder of today's alarms.

It seems to make more sense in its current implementation. Having it only refer to what is playing would seem to limit the preset to a single track as opposed to an album or playlist or navigable element. There is tremendously more flexibility with the current implementation without preventing adding what is presently playing.

You noted that my bug is a duplicate of this bug and I disagree. Please re-read bug:
"I press and hold the preset for the currently selected item, which worked on the first go round. Then, when I try and do the same for a new item to change the preset, it does not work. I literally had to delete the item assigned to the preset from the favorites list to get it to let me assign a new item to the preset. I even tried online on the squeezenetwork manage my favorites and it still does not work.

Deleting the items from my favorites is not functional for me, I just want to be able to change my presets amongst my favorites list for quick access. I should be able to reassign a preset as often as I want just like in my car stereo, as others have alluded too in these forums."

No matter if I tried to reassign the preset from now playing or from favorites, it did not work unless I deleted the item assigned to that preset from my favorites list.

Second, if my account on Squeezenetwork has a list of favorites, why can't I have the option to have those top six mapped to the preset buttons on the boom. I should be able to toggle that on and off on my squeezenetwork account.

I am one of the 'confused' people who expects to get the currently PLAYING station added when pressing and holding the Preset Button. This might be because I am blind, so I basically never look at the display but trust in my ears. I'd very much welcome to have Comment #3 put into action and having the possibility created to set the behaviour of pressing and holding a preset button.

I also secont Comment #5: After getting my two booms, the preset buttons were just assigned to the first 6 favorites in my SN Account. I was able to change a certain preset once, but not a second time, at least not by just using the Press-And-Hold method. I'd love to see this fixed! Thanks for the great work!

Andy notes it must be left this way because of the way Rhapsody works. Dean will review with Andy for 8.0

I have the same/similar problem; this morning I was trying to map a different favorite to a preset that had already been assigned. I navigated to the favorite and played it. Then I held down a preset button to lock it in, but it did nothing... no UI indication of saving the preset, and no action taken.

Would this be considered the same issue, or a different one? Should we start a new bug, "SqueezeBox Boom preset press-hold doesn't always save preset"?

Andy, can you elaborate on what you talked about with james?
