Description Mickey Gee 2008-06-18 10:25:55 UTC
People want the PIN to be consistently accessible on Boom. That is, they want to be able to look at a menu and find it like on SB3. Currently it is not.

Why do people want the PIN accessible in Boom?

The only time they'll need it is when connecting a player to SN for the first time, and at that point, it's the only thing on the screen.

There was a problem with the CAT testing where the testers had their players connected to one service and they were connected to another with their web browsers. Is this where we failed?

I've had a case with a potential customer that had Boom connected to the wrong SN account. He wanted to see a PIN on a menu, and it was not obvious to him how to make a PIN reappear once the player was removed from the account.

I'm not sure the PIN is going to help them in this case, If the player is associated with another account, then they'll need to remove it from that account before moving it to another. Is that right, Andy?

But this begs the question of how the user knows what account they are attached to. It seems to me that under Settings there should be an item for SqueezeNetwork Account where the user can go read the account name.

The process for moving a Boom from one account to the next is not clear if you can't readily look for a PIN. Here's how I think it's supposed to work:

1. Go to SN and Players tab.
2. Look for the player and choose Delete.
3. Sign out and go to other SN account.
4. Choose Players tab.
5. Enter PIN and player name under Add A Player.

Given this scenario, I don't know how the user obtains a PIN to use for step #5.

I agree -- it's not obvious how to find the account associated with a Boom. I think solving this would remove some confusion among users and setting up a Boom.

Once they delete the player from the account, the screen should change to the PIN and remain there until they disconnect or register the player.

The key thing here is that if the player isn't registered, the only thing that they see when connected to SN is a screen with a PIN on it.

I did discover that the account name is hidden in the information item in settings. That area could probably be reorganized to make the useful information more prominent.

OK -- that settles that. Thanks!

However, here's another scenario that might require a PIN on the menu:

Steven: If a user enters a pin when they create a new account and they mistyped the email or they lose their email that user has no way of getting a pin without contacting support right? At least I have help two people today in this situation. I have not tried it myself yet.

Andy: I guess the pin probably shouldn't be activated until the user activates the account

Steven: Yea, that is what is happening. The boom is active on the account before the account is activated. That can sure cause some confusion.

Maybe there's a SqueezeNetwork fix in here, but a PIN on a menu would address issues that we haven't thought of yet.

What about the case where the users SELL their boom to someone else, and forget to "delete" the unit from their SN account?

Would we want TS to be called so they can reset the MAC of the sold unit?

The PIN is supposed to be there, item 7 under Settings. (Except in the current Boom SN, where it's broken due to a reworking of the settings area. It will be back.)

In order to move a player from one account to the other, enter the PIN in SN and the player then becomes associated with that account.

When Andy gets the PIN back in settings, we should be good.
