Description Mickey Gee 2008-06-18 10:22:08 UTC
The acronym "PIN" has certain connotations and expected characteristics:

1. Constant value
2. Secret number
3. Associated with a user or specific hardware
4. Valuable number
5. Unique number

When used with a Squeezebox player and sign-ups, a PIN currently doesn't have most of these characteristics.

Suggestion has been made to:

1. Rename PIN to more accurately reflect its characteristics or
2. Change PIN characteristics to reflect user's pre-conceived notions

How about 'Code'?

Dean do you have any thoughts about the solution and priority of this?

FWIW, apple uses "passcode" and not PIN.

The main limitation is that the printed documentation uses PIN, so it's hard to change for our existing products (Duet, Boom, etc.)

We could change this for future products, post Boom, and/or if the printed documentation changes.

The PIN will be going away for some products, so...
