Description Julius Dauz 2008-05-22 17:52:30 UTC
I was helping a user in regards to how scanner works and he would like to see scanner work a little differently. Below I have pasted his last response, it describes the way he would like to see scanner work. You can also refer to ticket # 080430-002812 if you would like to read the email correspondence.

Quote from email:

the functionality I would like to see is a possibility to use the Squeezebox to browse directly in a directory structure of files, rather than to browse the database representation of it. This would sidestep the need to scan files and would provide a convenient way to use the Squeezebox just as an ordinary MP3 player software, such as WMP or Winamp. These players do not require a database in order to play a file or directory ad hoc.

Isn't this exactly what "Browse Musicfolder" does? Available in all interfaces.

needless to say, though ironicly, it needs to be said... you MUST have a music folder entered in the music folder setting so that you get the Music Folder option for browsing. Then, play any files that you want. Yes, the db is still there, but browsing to a folder of new files will add those files to the db and allow you to play them right away.

Check with the customer to see if using the Music Folder option is OK for him? Come see me if you have questions on this one.
