Description Michael Herger 2008-05-21 08:10:47 UTC
I've experienced several interruptions with my second Boom:

- after a while, when switching from SN to SC, it wouldn't play any more; switching back and forth wouldn't help, it would stay silent on SN, too

- after <2h of playing I got a boom, and Boom rebooted, wouldn't play any more

In both cases (first case happened more than once), unplugging Boom for a while (1h+) would "fix" the issue. Once I was able to play some track after having it unplugged for 10mins only. But then switching to SN from SC muted it again.

Capacitor that needs changing out on PQP2 units.

On PQP2 Units that were shipped directly from Suzhou, we put the wrong component on the board -- a 4.7nF cap instead of a 4.7uF cap.

This cap needs to be replaced if you're having 'audio stops playing' problems.

What boom revision is this? If this is a PQP2 unit shipped directly from suzhou, it's probably the capacitor mis-stuffing problem. We accidentally put a 4.7nF cap where a 4.7uF cap should go.

See the attached image.

What we've seen is that it will work on the first reset, then stop working after being warm-booted. If you upgrade the DAC, it'll stop working.

Other times it won't work at all. It's quite unpredictable.

This can be fixed by putting a 1u cap in position C124, but it's hard to get to.

This problem is resolved on PQP3 and later builds.

If you experience this problem and don't have the skills necessary to fix it, send the unit back to MV and we'll rework it.

BTW, any units shipped from Mountain View have been reworked.

Might be my case. Can you see this from the above details?

Do I need a soldering iron? Then I don't have the skills :-).

Thanks for the info.
