Description Bert Klaasen 2008-05-18 04:16:34 UTC
On my Windows Server 2008 box (still not listed in the PLATFORM drop down box)I have used the program "Squeezecenter Startop Options" to enable Squeezecenter to run as a service. I am providing a username/password different than the administrator account. The account I am using is an account that has restrictions on my music directories, so that for example my music files cannot be deleted by accident.

After doing this I noticed that playing WMA lossless files didn't work anymore. The light on the Player would lit up for a few seconds and then return to its dimmed mode.

After some experimentation I found out that when I use my administrator account, playing WMA lossless does work. I can then also see wmadec in my process list.

I have tried to tweek the security settings on the squeezebox directories, e.g. added access of my special purpose user account with limited access to everything else), but this doesn't work.

So there seems to be a security access issue to the squeezebox directories.

1) At least the documentation should be clear about this: what permission the user specified with the "Squeezecenter Startop Options" requires for wma lossless files to be able to be played.

2) The SqueezeCenter Service Enabler should apply the proper security profile to the directories so that transcoding works.

As you mention this is not really a bug - thus by far not critical.

If we did what you propose in 2.), then I'm sure we'd see complaints from security aware users about changing user's profiles.

Feel free to make this an enhancement request.
