Description pulp_136 2008-05-12 12:47:21 UTC
This applies to 7.0.1-18767, 7.0.1-19608, 7.1-19634.
7.0 and 6.x are OK.

The CLI "status" command returns wrong greek characters in tags. Other CLI commands, like "title ?" or "album ?" work fine.
Comment 1 pulp_136 2008-05-13 02:09:26 UTC
I could attach a file with greek characters in tags, if it would help.
Comment 2 Chris Owens 2008-06-09 09:23:20 UTC
The file would be very helpful. Also, what response are you seeing now in the CLI?

Christopher, I'm not sure what you mean with "now". If you mean last nightlies, I haven't tried them (should I?). If you mean what the wrong characters are like, they are some strange symbols (not characters of any language).

What local is XP set to? This is what I'm seeing:

title ?
00%3A04%3A20%3A16%3A06%3A23 title %CE%A0%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%87%CE%AC%CE%BB%CE%B7%CF%

Greek. If it helps, the only (from the few I have downloaded) 7x version that displays correct greek characters is 7.0 - 17793 - Windows XP - EN - cp1253.

(I'll be back next Friday, won't be online until then.)
Comment 7 Ross Levine 2008-08-04 14:40:40 UTC
Thanks Pulp. I've set my language and location to Greek / Greece. I've tried with latest 7.2 as well as 7.0 and status and title ? always return hex for me. Are you also seeing hex and converting that manually or did the CLI actually print Greek?
Comment 8 pulp_136 2008-08-05 06:30:57 UTC
Νο, I don't convert, it returns Greek.
Have you tried the exact same nightly (not any 7.0) that I mentioned above? It should work perfectly.

Thanks for looking into it.
Comment 9 Ross Levine 2008-08-05 17:17:40 UTC
Pulp is this a Greek version of XP or is it XP switched to Greek in the language preferences?
Comment 10 pulp_136 2008-08-08 00:22:22 UTC
XP switched to Greek in the language preferences
Comment 11 Michael Herger 2008-11-04 03:41:57 UTC
Please update to the latest 7.3 revision 23806 or later. I've checked in a few changes regarding character encoding in CLI.

I want you to know I haven't forgotten about this bug. But I'm having a really tough time with this switch, I change the language to Greek in language prefs and it keeps changing back to English. I'll keep at it, please let us know what you find with Michael's changes to 7.3.
Comment 13 Michael Herger 2008-11-05 01:41:08 UTC
Pulp - any chance you could give 7.3 a try? The results I'm getting seem to be correct:

albums 0 10 charset:iso-8859-1
albums 0 10 charset%3Aiso-8859-1 id%3A1 album%3A%CE%A0%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%87%CE%AC%CE%BB%CE%B7%CF%82%20%CE%A4%CE%B5%CF%81%CE%B6%CE%AE%CF%82%20-%202004%20-%20%CE%A3%CF%84%CE%B1%20%CF%85%CF%80%CF%8C%CE%B3%CE%B5%CE%B9%CE%B1%20%CE%B5%CE%AF%CE%BD%CE%B1%CE%B9%20%CE%B7%20%CE%B8%CE%AD%CE%B1 count%3A1

which decodes to: "Πασχάλης Τερζής - 2004 - Στα υπόγεια είναι η θέα" (which is Greek to me :-))
Comment 14 pulp_136 2008-11-05 15:34:05 UTC
With 7.3-23820 all files with a greek or accented character in their path or filename do not play or get added to the playlist. We had a bug like that back to the 5.3 days.

Sorry for not being able to test the rest now, I'll do it in the weekend.

My fix for the search issue breaks all kind of other features :-(. I've reverted yesterday's change to fix a search issue. (rev. 23828).

Ross, I just tested and you don't have to switch to Greek in the "Regional Options", but only in the "Advanced" Tab, "Language for non-Unicode programs".
Then, the Squeezecenter version mentioned above (7.0 - 17793 - Windows XP - EN - cp1253) returns Greek just fine (the status command at least).
Comment 17 Ross Levine 2008-11-10 15:31:41 UTC
Thank you. I'm now able to validate this bug, CLI does indeed not the correct Greek characters, it prints:

%CE%A0%CE%B1%CF%83%CF%87%CE%AC%CE%BB%CE%B7%CF%
82%20%CE%A4%CE%B5%CF%81%CE%B6%CE%AE%CF%82%20-%20%CE%A3%CF%84%CE%B1%20%CF%85%CF%8

B8%CE%AD%CE%B1

Which I believe translates to:

Πασχάλης Τερζής Στα υπόγεια είναι η θέα

Instead of:

Πασχάλης Τερζής - Στα υπόγεια είναι η θέα

Exactly. These are the strange symbols I get too.

Yes, that should be it.

thanks for looking into it.

I hope I will tomorrow evening.
Sorry for taking so long to test, but since I moved to WHS, changing 7.0 and 7.3 builds back and forth is not as easy as it was with XP.
