Description Sue Chastain 2008-05-08 18:53:05 UTC
I had the Boom out by the pool today from about 3:20 to 6 PM. It sits on a covered platform so it stays mostly shaded, but this was the longest I had kept it outside so far.

I had been out close to 2 hours when I looked up at the screen of the Boom and it was blank. It continued to play but the remote was unresponsive. I could control it with my PDA, but the screen stayed dark for about 10-15 minutes. By the time I got out and went over to check on it, the display had come back on.

Then I went and watered some plants for about 10 minutes. When I came back I was standing near it drying off and at one point I noticed the screen was blank again, but an instant later it came back on.

Today's temp was close to 90°F. At the time the screen was blanking it was completely in shade because the sun had dropped behind the trees by then.

Caleb: have you looked at this?

I have it on my list to test operating environment performance tomorrow in Fremont.

We had no issues with very high heat (> 90C). WE think this may be related to incorrect ambient light sensor behavior.

Steven, have you checked this?

I have been unable to repeat this problem, even with very high heat. This could have been a problem with ambient light sensor values saturating in earlier firmware, causing boom to think it was dark out.

Unless anybody can reproduce this problem, we should close it.

MeSue, can you reproduce with the latest firmware?

It hasn't happened for me in a very long time. Never has happened on the newer hardware.
Comment 6 Caleb Crome 2008-07-26 14:36:03 UTC
Okay, I'm going to close this bug as 'INVALID', since we think either it was a problem with old hardware or with old software.

Please reopen or file a new bug if there is any further problem.
