Description Blackketter Dean 2008-05-05 17:08:55 UTC
Just like SC can pull a player from SN, it should be able to pull a player from another local, non-password protected server.

You can, in effect, do this with SBC and from the front panel, but not with the web UI.

http://www.herger.net/ServerSwitcher - don't know why I never got it working on anything but Linux. While this has been a topic for ages, I don't know how many users actually would need this. Download numbers and feedback for the plugin have been _very_ rare.

Should have said that lack of requests I never updated it to SC7.

And looking again I see it's not exactly what you want. ServerSwitcher is discovering a list of _server_, not players. Will take a look at the SBC implementation.

Another thought is that if SC can do this via the web UI, it should be easy to create a new player UI setting called Music Source that lets the user switch to other servers via the player UI.

This would be consistent with SBC and let us get rid of the SN choice in the home menu (which isn't that useful anymore with the better SN integration in SC.)

change 19519
- add server discovery to SC
- replace "Switch to SN" menu with Settings/Musicsource (align with SBC)
- allow switching to any server discovered in the network

This is player interface only for now.

As a legacy, I think we should allow the user to enable the SqueezeNetwork item in the home menu. Has it been removed completely?

It just wasn't registered any more. change 19532 is putting it back, but it's not enabled by default on fresh installations. Existing installations don't change. Additionally I've added the Musicsource mode as a new menu option which can be added to the main menu.

Sounds good to me.

Comment 9 Michael Herger 2008-05-08 15:51:09 UTC
change 19569
- add players from any detected server to player drop down
- group players by server
- make server selectable, switch to corresponding web interface when selected
- make players switch to "current" SC if selected
