Bugzilla – Bug 7911
Limit Random Mix by Playlist
Last modified: 2009-11-10 11:44:32 UTC
Currently I never use the random mix function because it always brings up songs I don't want to hear and it's a pain to always be skipping. So I generate random mixes in another program and save them as playlists. This is okay, but I am constantly having to create new ones and manage them. I would like to be able to designate a playlist of ALL my "Mixable" songs. If the playlist is very large it is too inefficient to load all the songs and shuffle them. It would be preferable if we could choose a Random Mix of songs that only pulls from a specific playlist. So you might choose Random Mix > Random Songs from Playlist > Prompt for playlist > Generate mix. People could create a variety mix lists and then generate mixes based on them--Party mix, relaxation list, Sue's songs, John's favorites, workout tunes, etc.
Hi Sue, it seems like the 'right' solution to this would really be to make Squeezecenter able to load huge playlists and shuffle them in a reasonable amount of time. Would that solution work for you? Note to self: Steven says there's already a bug on speeding up playlists.
Yep, that would work. In the mean time, I was poking around for a solution and I came across the Dynamic Playlist plug-in, which does pretty much exactly what I requested.
PS: I could not find the existing bug report you mentioned. Can you tell me the # so I can vote on it?
I'll find the bug later and mark this as a duplicate of the bug, so you'll get a notification at that time.
