Bugzilla – Bug 7906
Controller freezes on firmware update and reboots
Last modified: 2008-04-20 13:34:51 UTC
I have a Controller running firmware version: 7.0.1 r2269 Reciever works as expected, control from web interface works. Steps: 1. Turn on the controller 2. I get update request for version 7.0.1 r2287 3. I start the update (not much choice) 4. 'Copying update' screen show, but frozen No percentage shown, activity indicator doesn't rotate. 5. Reboots after +/- 26 seconds 6. Back to 2 Tried: 1. Factory reset: same behaviour Factory reset worked OK I could configure Controller and Reciever Reciever firmware got updated when I selected my Squeezecenter as music source Then I got stuck updating the controller, as before. 2. Downgrade: same behaviour Used roommates 7.0 server, firmware r20?? Since I can't get out of the software update screen, my controller is pretty much useless now.
I have the same issue with 7.0.1 r2269. I can get out of the Software Update menu by pressing back button for a few seconds (at step 2 below). The back button DOES NOT fix or work-around any of the problems that subsequently re-appear: - when manually navigating to update menu and start update, the update fails the same way as the automatic one (as from step 4 onwards, see original report) - at the Home screen the Choose Player shows my duet player correctly but when I select the player, it starts connecting (and seems to succeed since the normal Home menu content is briefly shown) but then the Software Update screen spontaneously appears on top; back in step where the Home menu contains nothing else but these 3 items: Settings Extras Choose player - the controller cannot select my squeezecenter or the squeezenetwork as a Music Source, which makes it effectively unusable for its purpose (the selection just jerks the menu screen and nothing happens). I have also removed the files jive.version jive_7.0.1_r2287.bin from the /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/ at my restarted my squeezecenter and I see it downloads the same .bin again from network (final md5sum is ea4814f28c2f901488994d79a2a6339f, I think slimdevices should start to publish and sign these as well) After this I can see the file download percentage in the controller but on the subsequent reboot and re-update it just boots at the copying step as described in the original report. So, in all cases the controller returns to the same update after reboot.
