Description Scott McMillan 2005-01-11 20:08:09 UTC
Every time I attempt to play .m4a files, i get a "mov123 has encountered an
error and needs to close" error. once the error is cleared, slimserver
resumes and attempts to play the next song--if the next song is .m4a, then
mov123 crashes, if the next song is a different format, the next song plays.
this phenomenon is happening for *all* .m4a files, not just a few. tried
installing the lame encoder, but realized that mov123 is still doing the
initial decoding, thus it continues to crash.

Are Quicktime or iTunes installed on this system? For mov123 to work, it's
required...

Vidur to roll back to the older (more reliable) version of mov123 and see if this fixes.

Scott, we've got reports of mov123 problems on Windows 2003. Is this what you
are using, or is this vanilla Windows XP?

In either case, could you try downloading an older version of mov123 at
https://svn.slimdevices.com/*checkout*/trunk/server/Bin/MSWin32-x86-multi-thread/mov123.exe?rev=606
This version has proved to work on Windows 2003.

I'm provisionally marking this a dup of bug 415. Will change that if it is not a
Windows 2003 problem.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Vanilla XP. I didn't realize that iTunes
(or quicktime) needed to be installed in order to use mov123. Anyhow, i
converted all of my .m4a files to flac before i realized this. I have since
installed iTunes, but have no files to test with. You may want to amend the
documentation or the FAQ to make it abundantly clear that iTunes needs to be
installed on the slimserver server (maybe i missed this, but it's certainly
not in the FAQ). Thanks for the help.--scott

Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
