Bugzilla – Bug 7738
Year tags with more than 4 characters are showing as unknown
Last modified: 2008-04-06 22:52:05 UTC
All my WMA lossless files have been ripped with dbpoweramp. dbpoweramp stored the year with more information than just year on certain albums. Information could be: 1996 or 1996 08 or 1996 08 12 ** The first 4 character are always the year. It would be nice if the scanner would take the first 4 characters of the year if it doesn't recognize it as a valid date or as greater than 4 character. This hasn't been an issue for me till I got my duet. WMP11 and Itunes and most other software recognize the first 4 characters as the year. This change would sure be appreciated, I would like to retain this information without having to touch all my files by moving the information into another tag.
If we implemented this, next would be the European which have the year at the end (dd.mm.yyyy), with or without dots, slashes etc. It's just too much of a hassle fixing all the other applications' bugs. A year with more than four digit's is still almost 8000 years ahead ;-)
