Bugzilla – Bug 7631
Boom should use press and hold PAUSE to do a firmware update, as we have no brightness button
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:14:05 UTC
In the last few days, I've used an SB3 remote and pressed Brightness to force Boom to upgrade firmware from SC7. That seems to be very handy and I don't think you can do that with a Boom remote. I would assume that there's other functionality missing from the Boom remote that's important. There needs to be a well-thought out mapping of SB3 remote to Boom remote functionality. I'm not sure which functionality needs to be mapped to what though.
Please open separate bugs for each new behavior you'd like to see on the buttons. Also, please take a look at http://wiki-corp.slimdevices.com/index.php/Boom_UI for some of the proposed UI changes.
Pressing and holding power currently is resetting the device. How should the two different actions (reset, firmware update) for the same button work?
Arg, good point. The only other button that would make sense then is the PAUSE button, I guess. I think we should leave auto-update on for Boom, it seems to be ok with Ray.
I think I'd vote for auto-update as well. Some have already requested it with existing products and it is less confusing than having different buttons to keep track of. Although, I'm curious why there is no longer a brightness button...but I guess that's probably something self-explanatory after actually seeing the device.
Auto update is enabled by default. Rev 4047
Verified: 7.2-22579 r26 - auto update is enabled by default in the firmware
