Description Mickey Gee 2008-03-25 14:22:30 UTC
When scrolling to view artists, holding down the up or down arrow seems to do have 3 speeds: slow, medium, and fast, and it progresses from slow to medium to fast in a non-smooth way. It should progress through these speeds in a smooth way without hitches.

Is this Boom specific? Could you try on a SB to see if it's the same.
Comment 2 Mickey Gee 2008-03-25 17:43:08 UTC
I think it's the same on SB3, but I'm not sure. Reassigning to Brian to verify.
Comment 3 Brian Dils 2008-03-28 09:56:43 UTC
I don't have a SB3 available to me until Monday, but this bug is kind of hard to explain. So I'll take a video of the behavior and post it somewhere

This is an issue both with the remote and the wheel.

Caleb?

Although this is marked a firmware setup bug, I assume this is really just when connected to Squeezecenter?

sounds like it's all about the SC scrolling to me. I do think it gets fast rather suddenly, but it's never bothered me because I'm usually looking to cover a long list when it does.

As a setup issue, some accel would be nice for WEP/WPA passphrase entry.

Ya, this needs the same update that Jive needs. Should be much easier in Boom though because of no need for fancy pre-fetching scheme.

Boom is actually a great device to tune up the wheel-based scrolling algorithm, since it removes some of the complexity of Jive. Once the dynamics are mastered, we'll know what needs to be done on Jive.

The critical problem for boom is that there is no acceleration on the knob.

The remote acceleration could be tuned for the remote (and verified especially with the new remote), but the knob is painful to use in long lists now.

Fixed in r22129.

Hi All,
I just checked in a complete re implementation of the boom knob scrolling. It should handle long and short lists gracefully now.

The affected files are
Buttons/Common.pm
Hardware/IR.pm
Player/Client.pm

Please run svn update or wait for the next nightly and try it out.
This should only affect the behavior of the knob.

There is a new feature that when using the knob, the lists don't roll over automatically. If you hit the bottom of a lists. You need to stop for a second, then continue to roll over back to the beginning. This lets you get to, Now Playing' or other screens very quickly and easily because they are always in the same location as far as your fingers are concerned. that is, you can twist quickly to get to the top, then click down the number of clicks you need.

This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.0 release version of SqueezeCenter!

Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already.

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
