Description Stefan 2008-03-24 14:56:22 UTC
Ran out of decoder PRAM, if SlimServer is running on NAS (DS207)

SlimServer Version: 6.5.4 - 12568 - Linux - EN - utf8
Server IP address: 192.168.1.47
Perl Version: 5.8.8 ppc-linux-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 4.1.15

No solution found in existing bug reports

Stream plays fine if SlimServer runs on other Linux Computers and on XP PC.

Please note that development on SS6 has stopped. Please give SC7 a try and report back whether the issue still occurs. Thanks.

Also: did you contact flipflip about this issue? Might be a problem with transcoding, whatever in the binaries he supplies.
Comment 3 Stefan 2008-03-27 12:50:55 UTC
I tried with SC7, same problem. I sent Flip my question, he wanted to discuss it here. Thanks

QA to collect failing ogg streams in this bug so we can understand what they have in common to cause this problem.

Trying to play the Stream http://fm4.nobody.at/fm4-hq.m3u drives Squeezebox to RAN OUT OF DECODER PRAM. This w/o SqueezeCenter involvement; same thing if I try though SqueezeCenter. Why not get with the Station Host and anylize the Problem? http://fm4.amd.co.at/

SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0.1 - 19705 @ Wed May 14 19:53:43 PDT 2008 - Linux - EN - utf8
Server IP address: 192.168.1.47
Perl Version: 5.8.8 ppc-linux-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.51

Platform Architecture: ppc-linux

Hostname: DiskStation

Server Port Number: 9000

Stefan, is this only true if you are using server side decoding? That is to say that you have Ogg Vorbis to Ogg Vorbis disabled in File Types?

Are you able to do server side decoding of Ogg Vorbis with your DiskStation?

This is the only working server based decoder setting

On NAS, output is stottering in this config (only Flac enabled)
This setting works fine on Win/Linux PC

Default OGG selected, leads to RAN OUT OF DECODER PRAM (requires power cycle to recover)

Just to isolate the problem, tested via SqueezeNetwork (NAS/PC offline): Squeezebox also runs into RAN OUT OF DECODER PRAM.

Yes, it plays fine only on Win/Linux PC for server side decoding.

Yes, I am able to do server side decoding on NAS based Server, but it stotters
for some reason. See att. for details

This is most likely a duplicate of bug 4418. Currently the only known workaround is to disable native Ogg Vorbis decoding when playing these streams.

Unfortunately it appears that your NAS is running out of cpu cycles while transcoding ogg.

I wonder if those ogg stations that are failing with native decoding are using a pre release version of the Ogg Vorbis encoder.
