Description Gautam Bhatnagar 2005-01-02 04:29:25 UTC
isn't there any way of setting the name displayed in Slimserver at the player
end - without using the web interface - it'd be great if the player could
broadcast its name

especially as i listen to my music all over the world on different client
sites at work, so its hard to keep track of all the IPs - and they keep
changing!

regards

Gautam

what would you have them named??
The IP address is used as a default name if no other is supplied. The MAC
address is used for the hardware players, so the names should not be changing.

I think one posible option here is to assign the first IP address as the name
automatically instead of waiting until the user accesses the player settings and
does not enter a name.

For software players, the hostname would be an ideal choice for the default
name. I'm pretty sure that all the supported platforms have the concept of
hostname.

For hardware players, it would be nice if the opposite occurred -- once the web
ui has been used to assign a name, the hardware player should announce that as
its hostname when connecting via DHCP.

I think that the DHCP thing is already done for hardware players.

Yes, it's done in fw.
