Bugzilla – Bug 7557
Rhapsody Direct cannot find all relevant music
Last modified: 2008-03-28 10:59:32 UTC
Searching on the word "Complete" brings up over 1200 entries in the Rhapsody software. In SqueezeCenter it brings up maybe 100. One CD (well, two really) that definitely exists on Rhapsody is: George Gershwin - The Complete Piano Work, Massimiliano Damerini (CD1 and CD2) (the "s" on works is missing) Searching within SqueezeCenter for album using Gershwin Complete returns "No results found". Searching under artist for Massimiliano turns up a bunch of them; selecting Massimiliano Damerini returns five albums, none of them the Gershwin. Searching under album for Complete Piano Work turns up four albums, the first one ironically being a _different_ Complete Gershwin, none of the others being the one I'm looking for. Selecting "More results" returns a Rhapsody error and "No results found". Searching by keyword for Gershwin complete returns (0) album results. I was able work around this was to go into the Rhapsody software, add the albums to my library, and play from there.
Not sure why this bug is now in here as both 7557 and 7559 . . . I'll mark 7559 as a copy. Also the last sentence of my bug was a bad editing victim . . .

I currently have search results limited to 100. My thinking was that if what you are looking for isn't in the first 100 you probably need to refine your query. The fact that "Gershwin Complete" doesn't return any results is probably a bug on the Rhapsody side. You may have better luck with the Composers search.
I can understand limiting the search (well, not really, to be honest), but what I'm trying to point out is that in the case of this particular search it appears to become impossible to reach this item with any Rhapsody search through SC, due to the intentional limitations (and possibly Rhapsody bugs). Composer search for George Gershwin, as you can imagine, would bring up a huge number of items. And indeed, when I tried it (in SC), 163 items came back, none of which were what I am searching for. This concerns me, because it makes it seem as though my Rhapsody usage is going to be limited to the set of things that SC can find (given, of course, that I can fall back on the "add to the library" method, which I guess is what I'll do.) It seems to me that if the in-SC search of Rhapsody is not complete, there's not much point in the user using it -- or at least he has to know and remember always to go to the "real" (haha) Rhapsody search just in case. I guess I'm not clear on the advantage of an in-SC search that is not as powerful as the Rhapsody search itself. Even with the 100 item limitation "Complete Piano Work" should have found those CDs. Maybe that's a Rhapsody bug, as you suggest . . . but it's still a bug, one way or t'other. You mention "refining the query", and believe me, I tried. But there doesn't seem to be any refinement that will get me to this particular item. I take it there's no possibility for "Advanced" search -- Artist AND Album kind of thing? I do detect the likelihood of Rhapsody bugs as you mention, since searching on Rhapsody itself for "massimilino damerini" as Artist doesn't get me to the Gershwin album either. Maybe this is one of those things that will get better over time. Thanks for your response.
Marking won't fix, we can't control the search results Rhapsody sends back.
