Differentiate between singles and albums
Last modified: 2011-04-08 01:10:16 UTC
I have a large album library which is nicely catalogued and accessible though SqueezeCenter. I also have a fairly large number of singles. They are all ripped, but not organised well, tagged properly or artwork added to them. This is because SqueezeCenter has no concept of a single. I don't want them treated as another entry in the album list because that will effect the album count statistics etc.
i'm voting for this b/c i think its a good idea, it will def help with the so called "no album" issues... but my Q to you is HOW do you want it resolved? meaning, what behavior are you looking for? how would you implement it? btw, albums counts / stats are already all messed up, i have a bug in with screen shots showing it.
Hey, I'm up for this. Maybe even a user definded heading. Singles should not come up under albums, but still under artist and genre. Howard
let me clarify that i do want SC to be able to tell an "album" from a "single" but i also want to be able to see the singles under home > albums. phil had a request somewhere saying that under specific artists there should be a second section called "also appears on" which i think would be good for singles. as to the main album list, i think a toggle type option to group singles together, or place under each artist, or remove all-together would suit almost all users.

Mike, I've been meaning to reply to this for a while, but never remembered at the right time. What I had in mind was was either have a seperate location for singles, like there is already for albums and playlists, or a tag to diferenciate between singles and albums. For display, what I would like would be something like this: Music Library - Artists - Albums - Singles - Genres - Years - New Music - Random Mix - Music Folder - Playlists - Search Music All these sections would be pretty much as they are now, but one you get to listing the actual releases, you would have a header for albums with a list or grid underneath, then a header for singles and a list or grid underneath. I've added a mocked up screenshot of how I imagine the artist screen

Howard
personally, i don't see a need for that at all. artists and albums are themselves already somewhat redundant, and i want to be able to see singles under albums, but have them identified as such so they can be treated differently under certain circumstances (all optionally of course). i mean, where to stop? one for singles, one for comps, one for multi-disc sets? however, your screenshot is great, and is basically what i was saying phil had suggested. just add another section for comps the artist appears on as "also appears on" and you've got it.

Alan, i thought this might be inside the scope of onebrowser
