Description pardieu 2008-03-10 13:30:48 UTC
Lyrics does not display correctly accented characters coming from flac tags.
LYRICS Tags has been previously edited with foobar2000 and/or MP3Tag. Both program display the Lyrics tag correctlty.
On the Track card, I get invalid characters everywhere there should be a non-english character.
If I use the Lyrics Display plugin, the same problems appear (for instance on the Squeezebox display, and this is a problem as I like to read lyrics - often french or german - when listening, same happens for language lessons tracks)
But if I browse music with the Custom Browse plugin, the track is shown with right Lyrics display.

Could you please please remove any 3rd party plugin and try again? Do you still see broken characters? Could you please upload a small sample file?

Sample With Accented Characters

contains a 30s sample flac file with LYRICS tag that should display:
"French example of accented characaters: J'ai chanté tout l'été"
But instead displays:
"French example of accented characaters: J'ai chanté tout l'été"

I have stopped the server, removed all plugins from plugin folder, then restarted the server.
Then I added the attached sample file to my collection. I browse it with SqueezeCenter and get the problem again (see description in attached doc file in the zip)

I've run into a similar issue with accented characters in the tags. I have a couple of tracks off of Tone-Loc's Loc-ed After Dark and the o's in "Loc" have a bar over them (long o). Strangely, one track is an mp3 and it's fine, the other is a flac and everything after the accented character gets cut off. In it's place is a Å so it ends up being Tone-LÅ instead of Tone-Loc. I installed a copy of SlimServer 6.5.4 and the problem does not exist there. I also installed a plugin free version of SqueezeCenter 7.0 and the problem persists, so it's not caused by any of my plugins. The problem exists in both the web UI and the player UI.

Strangely, the title "Pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd" displays correctly, and those are flac files.

My server is:

SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17793 - solaris - EN - utf8
Server IP address: 192.168.1.3
Perl Version: 5.8.8 i86pc-solaris
MySQL Version: 5.0.51a

pardieu - are you running your SC on Windows or some other OS?
Comment 6 Michael Herger 2008-03-18 03:06:23 UTC
one more request - could you please upload a file which has accented characters in both title and lyrics?

Updated file with Accented charcater in title too

As you can see, Title displays correctly the accents (as well as other common tags like artist and album)

This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1

Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug.
