Description Jesper Holmberg 2008-03-06 11:57:32 UTC
It seems SC somehow screws up encoding when saving podcasts. The strange thing is that it works during the session when a podcast URL was added, but the problem shows up after a reboot.

See this thread for a screenshot of the problem: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42994. The display on the SBC shows the same problem.

This is what I do to provoke the bug:

1. Using Firefox on Windows XP, I add Podcast addresses through the settings page, where I cut and paste the URLs from another browser window. Two examples of such podcasts are:

http://www.sr.se/Podradio/xml/p1_dokumentar.xml
http://www.sr.se/Podradio/xml/Ekots_lordagsintervju.xml

Note that both these Podcasts have Swedish letters (umlauts) in their titles.

2. My SC 7.0 is running on Ubuntu Linux. After adding the podcasts and saving, I can browse them through home -> podcasts. Here the titles show up fine, correctly displayed as "P1 Dokumentär" and "P1 Ekots lördagsintervju". They also display correctly on the Squeezebox.

3. After I reboot the SC server, the encoding bug shows up, as shown in the displayed screenshot. It looks to me as though the titles have been saved in UTF-8, but SC somehow thinks the strings are in ISO-8859-1, but that's just a guess.
