Description James Richardson 2008-02-28 13:14:48 UTC
When doing an "upgrade" of SC on the Mac, a message dialog appears "Please stop the SqueezeCenter before running the Installer." When I click OK, then open the PrefPanel I see that the server has already been stopped.

It appears that the Mac installer IS stopping the service on its own, but presenting this dialog to the user anyway.

If I click OK on the dialog, then wait 15 seconds, and try the install again, it works with no errors.

There's a timeout that kicks in that cause this message if the server is taking a long time to shut down. Does that explain what you are seeing? How long is it taking?

Install Results dialog box

This dialog box pretty much shows up immediately after clicking update on the installer if SqueezeCenter is running.

Michael: Can you take a look at this?
Comment 4 Michael Herger 2008-03-31 08:28:51 UTC
change 18232 - fix regex for busy waiting loop until SC is properly shut down.

Please give tomorrow's build another try (or launch a new build manually)

Please re-open if needed. Thanks!

Verified fixed

This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1

Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug.

Testing the different languages we now support, I found this bug has come back for: Espanol, Italiano, Nederlands,

FYI, the error box is in English only for the same languages.

Do you see this _every_ time you run the installer? I've seen it once (in a dozen or so tries). Maybe just the wording should be changed? "Please wait while SC is shut down" or something?

install stopper

I don't see this issues every time, but maybe 1 in 3 times. I guess it depends on what my SC is doing at the time I install?

When I see this message, I must hit OK and restart the installer.

If this dialog doesn't come up, I get the normal (localized) "please wait for the installer to stop" message and between 1-4 min later the installer finishes normally.

cc'ing Dan so he can let us know if this is causing support calls
Comment 12 Michael Herger 2008-10-17 00:04:29 UTC
Any news on this? I can't reliably reproduce this. I guess it's non-critical, a timeout issue. SC trying to update while the old version is still busy closing down.
Comment 13 Dan Evans 2008-10-22 15:09:43 UTC
I've asked Support about this and it sounds like we just aren't getting this call. Nobody recalls encountering this issue.

With 7.2.1 I have not noticed this error as much either. Lets close it for now (can reopen later if real customers complain about it) as it is very minor and not a big deal for the customer to just wait 2-10 seconds, then click the "continue" button.
