Should a bridged Jive and Ray offer to connect additional Rays?
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:21:52 UTC
When running a Jive and Ray in bridged configuration, that is the Ray is connected to the network via Ethernet and sharing its connection with Jive wirelessly, should Jive offer to set up additional Rays via a wireless? Steps to reproduce: 1 Start with a Jive and Ray running successfully on your network in bridged configuration 2 Power up an additional Ray and make sure it is in setup mode and does not have an Etherenet connection 3 Navigate to the Set Up Receiver menu item and choose the additional Ray 4 Ray will immediately attempt to connect wirelessly to your first ray, logitech*squeezebox:000420******, and then offer a music source 5 Choose a music source and notice that the second Ray will successfully connect wirelessly to your first Ray This is not a bug per se, but I was surprised that this worked and wanted to make note of it.
Think about this for 7.0.1
Concerns came up about how many players can be connected this way, and what happens if players are synced, and what happens if you are doing something very CPU intensive like Rhapsody. It works, but it may not work well enough to leave there for customers. It might cause calls and complaints if it's not good.

I also wanted to note that setting up additional rays that are connected via Ethernet with a bridged jive should not, and does not appear, be an issue.

Dean: Should we close this bug or leave it open for further discussion?
Let's close it, as it's not a bug. It's a question. :) Please add this configuration (a couple of rays connected ad-hoc to a bridged ray) to the test plan. If it becomes a bug, we should fix it.
