Description Mickey Gee 2008-02-22 00:05:33 UTC
On r2683/r17679 on www.beta.squeezenetwork.com/userHome, there's a smattering of non-English words on the English-only screen. For example, Home is now Hoofdmenu, Browse is Bekiken and Favorites is Favorieten. The descriptive text looks OK.

Screenshot to follow.

Also seen in the Bekijken screen.

I couldn't find any other screens with issues, although there could be.

Account set to English

No Dutch settings ....
Comment 4 Michael Herger 2008-02-22 01:33:52 UTC
Ok, this seems to be a feature, though a very confusing one: there are two places to set the language. One is in the user account, the other one is/was top right (I'm not sure about the setting you select on the player...). While the account setting does update the DB, the top right language selector does not. But it does set a cookie, which takes precedence over the DB value. This would allow for having different languages in different browsers/machines.

I'd propose we don't do this. It's too much of a confusion. We still need the cookie for whenever the user is _not_ logged in. But as soon as he is, selecting a language should update the cookie _and_ the DB. If you change the language on machine/browser A, it should push out the new value to the cookie on machine/browser B.

Mickey: please delete your sdi_squeezenetwork_language cookie and see whether this fixes the Dutch you're seeing.

For now, the dropdown should be hidden and we should reset the accounts to english.

Once we have a reasonable translation, we should re-enable the pop-up menus in the web ui and have them both set the db flag and persist.

I deleted my Firefox cookies and the problem vanished. This confirms what was going on, but is not the general solution to this bug.

Fixed in r2700.

Language cookie is now completely ignored.
Browser Accept-Language header is used until user has a language preference.
