Description Alan Smith 2008-02-21 21:01:24 UTC
I tried to paste a screen shot here, but couldn't do it. Downloaded the latest SqueezeCenter today. Playing an album: the album art shows in the upper right panel but does not show in the left or lower right panel.

I then selected to sort by album to see if other albums were the same - none of the album artwork showed up in album view. When I selected a different album, the new album artwork was present in the left panel and then all the previous album artwork appeared in the lower right panel (I was still playing the first album). Went back to the first artist - still no artwork in the left panel.

Album art does show up on controller when playing the first album, and I select now playing.

On a different system with an older version of SqueezeCenter the album artwork for this first artist shows up in the left panel (this system isn't connected to a player, so nothing is in the right panel). The music directory/content is identical on both systems.

Alan, if you still have that screenshot, use the "Create a new Attachment" link above and try to upload it. That would be a big help.

that document is broken - can't even download. Could you please upload a .jpeg or .png file?

Also: are you using iTunes? What do you see in server.log if you enable logging for artwork (Settings/Advanced/Logging)?

Alan, it would be great if you could attach individual jpeg or png or gif files directly with individual comments. it helps the team work from the bug db directly.

thx!

p.s. I think that this is a word document pretending to be a text document...

pain in the ass screen shot

Two odd things here: The first I didn’t report as I suspect it had something to do with the tagging: There are some albums and songs that appear twice – even though there is only one in the music directory. Second, the “Alice in Chains” art in the left panel wasn’t there before. I’ve gone in and out of this view 20 times, and it just appeared now.

If I select one of the “duplicate” albums, it lists all the songs twice and shows no artwork. But I can’t play them – although I could have sworn I was able to earlier.

Now, what I see happening is when I go into an album, the artwork appears – this didn’t happen earlier. Further, after I’ve selected an album the artwork then appears in the sort by album view. I’ve tried this with several different artists and the artwork only appears after I select the album. Notice the Acoustic Soul album and see the next screen shot/attachement

after selecting "acoustic soul" and then coming back to the Home>Albums screen, you can now see that the artwork appears. This happens with all the albums I've tried this with.

Is it possible that SqueezeCenter was not completely finished caching all of the art work in your library? Did you try "Clear library and rescan everything" under Settings then Basic Settings?

From alan_smith@logitech.com to my personal email:

I believe so. Here's what I did: yesterday I got a different laptop and
did a fresh install. I loaded a few songs onto it, but then later copied
the entire "my music" directory from my current machine to this new one. I
then did "look for new and changed music". This was probably 6 or 7pm
yesterday. I'm pretty sure I clicked on status the second time and it said
it was done scanning. Nevertheless, this morning the artwork either
appearing or not appearing was the same as last night. I'm not sure how
long it takes to cache the artwork for 1100 tracks, but I'm guessing that
over night is enough time.

Alan, without reproducing this issue here we really could use some logs to help diagnose the issue you are experiencing. I was also curious to know if you are experiencing the same issue with other skins such as classic. Michael in comment #3 suggested artwork logging.

You may want to contact support if you need assistance in generating these logs. More information can be found at http://www.slimdevices.com/su_tech.html?

Just talked to Alan on the phone, and he said this seems to have been caused by scanning being incomplete. He's solved the problem for himself by deleting the offending playlist files, but he's going to send email with one of them, and we'll want to open a new bug about his issue. I'll leave this bug open for now until we get the new one started.

I did not see anything out of the ordinary with the playlists that were provided by Alan and did not appear to cause any issues with my SqueezeCenter. Perhaps it would be useful if Alan could try scanning the offending playlists in his SqueezeCenter again with scanner debug logging turned on and then attach that resulting log to this bug.

Michael, would the appropriate debug logging be (scan), (scan.import) and (scan.scanner)?
Comment 15 Michael Herger 2008-02-27 12:09:26 UTC
add "artwork" to the logging mix
Comment 16 Blackketter Dean 2008-02-29 09:23:03 UTC
Can't reproduce here. Alan: if you can generate some logs, please reopen this bug with details. Thx!
