Description Ben Klaas 2008-02-21 07:09:46 UTC
this comes from comment#1 of bug 7240, and is a wholly separate issue from what was first reported in that bug.

Steps to Reproduce:

1) Connect a Jive/Ray to SN
2) Using the Jive, switch connected ray to SC7 local server
3) Make sure the Ray can play something
4) Shut Down SC7 Server
5) Notice that Ray goes into BLUE mode
6) Using Jive, attempt to connect back to SN, At this point, both the Jive and
Ray are in a confused state, and the Jive will display an error message.

I have been able to reproduce this, but it's a recoverable issue. If you select to connect to SN via Choose Music Source, user first receives an error window about not being able to connect to SC (not SN). After selecting "Choose Music Source" from this resulting menu, SN is listed as a choice, and selecting it successfully connects to SN.

to be clear, amended information between the asterisks below:

If you *shut down the SC your jive is connected to, and then* select to connect to SN via Choose Music Source, user first receives an error window about not being able to connect to SC (not SN). After selecting "Choose Music
Source" from this resulting menu, SN is listed as a choice, and selecting it
successfully connects to SN.

not sure if I agree this needs to go in for 7.0. There are very particular circumstances to get to this condition, and if you follow the "Choose Music Source" item you can then connect to SN. We can talk about it at today's meeting.

this looks like a string change...moving to P1
Comment 4 Richard Titmuss 2008-03-31 06:25:01 UTC
I'm not sure this can be fixed easily for 7.0.1. The problem is when Ray is connected to SC, then Jive must tell SC to connect Ray to SN. Jive does not know that SC has been turned off (this must happen shortly after SC was turned off, before the network timeout on Jive).

The correct fix for this is part of 6683, where the server and player discover mechanisms in Jive will change. After this bug is fixed Jive will detect that Ray has gone 'blue light', and then udap will be used to tell Ray to connect to SN. Bug 6683 is not a 7.0.1 fix.

Unless someone can suggest another way to fix this bug I'd like to punt on this one.
