Description James Richardson 2008-02-20 14:54:43 UTC
When looking at the drill down for the two following parts, they both take me to the same place, but present 2 very different GUI's.

Suggest we make them look the same

Home > Artist > Album

Home > Music Folder > Artist - Album

These are actually very different places. In your test case, I would guess that your folder structure is Artist\Album\Track, so it would appear similar. Music Folder Browsing is actually a completely different method for navigation and assumes nothing from tags; it uses folder structure and filenames. BrowseDB (Home->Artist->Album, et al) is a structured hierarchy based on the metadata stored in the database.

KDF is right, while they appear to be two different "places", one is a folder the other is an album. It may be possible to make them more consistent (i.e. show cover art if there is some in a folder, etc., but they will always be different...

We used to have the artwork, but unfortunately when structures are NOT the usual artist->album->track, then users were unhappy that unrelated pics came up. I'm staying away from looking up code this week, but off hand, I believe we now simply block coverart when in "tree" mode.

It's not unusual to have a mix of folders including some with no artist/album hierarchy (for example, a mix CD from a friend). In this case album art as well as the headers for artist/album/etc would be misleading at best.

One could argue that this confusion would be avoided if they were made less consistent. Maybe the Browse Music Folder UI should look more like a traditional file browser.
