Bugzilla – Bug 725
No off time for alarm, no weekend exception, no non-repeating alarm
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:54:12 UTC
I just spent the weekend in another city. Returning on Sunday night, I was greeted by nice music in "alarm" volume, which must have played day and night for the last 36 hours... I'll probably try everything to avoid running into my apartment neighbours for a month or so... :-/ It's too easy to forget switching off the alarm. Once you do, the alarm turns on the music on the next morning which then stays on forever, day and night. Mitigations: 1) Add a setting for "alarm off". In my case, the alarm would have gone off at 7:00 and I'd have set it to switch off at 8:00. Much better than blaring all night. 2) For the repeating alarm, allow entering exception days (e.g. Sat/Sun). Or maybe allow alarm schedules (Mon-Sun, on/off and times per day). 3) Add a non-repeating alarm! Am I the only person who uses the alarm feature?
Lots of people use the alarm, it's a nice simple solution for basic needs. There's a great plugin created with LOTS of options, including most of the ones you mentioned, available here: http://callisto.deane-freeman.com/slimserver/
Those are great ideas. I can certainly add 'duration' and 'one-shot' as options for my plugin. The day choices are already there. Currently you can schedule second alarm to overtake an ealier one. It might be possible to use that as a workaround for turning off after some time. Perhaps a blank playlist might do it. The plugin is currently fixed to repeat, but it can be placed in the home menu of the player UI to make it a little easer to shut off when you go away. As for responding to the alarm, number keys snooze for 10 minues, arrow keys end the alarm. volume functions normally, and the display will show Alarm/Snooze status in the format that you have set for now playing.
I've added these features, and put v1.90 up on the website that dean included above. Please not that this works best with the latest CVS code. The displayed name returned will be odd looking in 5.4.x but the plugin should work.
I'm going to mark this as 'won't fix' becuase the existing alarm included with slimserver is really all that it will be (at least foreseeable future). For added features to alarms, email can go to me directly and I'll consider supporting via the plugin. Email me directly if there are any issues in the plugin with the new features listed in the original post.
Routine bug db maintenance; removing old versions which cause confusion. I apologize for the inconvenience.
