Bugzilla – Bug 7242
Include DATE with build information under Status tab
Last modified: 2009-07-31 10:17:29 UTC
Especially during periods approaching a new server release, having the date included in the info tab in SqueezeCenter would be grand!
Good suggestion.
Easier said than done. SC has no knowledge of build date, unless this gets added to the revision.txt info created at build time and we'd then have to parse instead of just slurping (or add another .txt file for date). Even at that, it's the same problem as the revision for svn users: no revision.txt. Corollary to this is that since svn downloads show up as TRUNK, any svn number does relate directly to a nightly build date.
I think that we've taken care of this concern using the SVN Build # instead of the word 'Trunk' or anything else. This gives the user very specific feedback on exactly which version of the software they are running. Using the date is actually useless because we build the software every night, regardless of whether we make changes to the software or not. Assuming the SVN revision # is OK, passing back to Dean for approval to close this enhancement request.
I disagree that the date is "useless". Redundant possibly, but not useless. I for one do not have access to SVN build numbers and would prefer not to have go digging around to reference a build number with a date, etc. Having the date in there would provide a quick glance query on when the build was produced and makes that information accessible to those outside of Engineering. Just my 2c.
I think that the date is important, as folks know what day they downloaded and can't really figure out what the revision number means by looking at it. This was assigned to Matt to make sure that the build date was available for SC (and the SBC firmware for that matter) to read. This doesn't have to be part of the release version field, rather a useful human-readable attribute.
FIxed in checkin # 18293. We will now include the Revision AND Build Date information in the Status page.
