Description Alan Smith 2008-02-19 09:40:08 UTC
First issue: Took the controller to the point it was out of range (btw, this range is less than a Squeezebox classic's range). When I came back into range, the controller did not reconnect to the network - when I pulled the battery out and replaced it, it was able to find the network.

Second issue: added twenty or so songs to the play list. after a half dozen songs, the now playing screen froze but the playlist kept playing.

Chris: were you going to split these up?
Comment 2 Chris Owens 2008-02-20 09:32:20 UTC
Alan, the 'adding songs to the playlist' issue, was that using the Controller? Or the web gui, or your old Squeezebox? I'm going to break that out as a second bug.

Ping chris & qa folk: we need to do this range testing asap.

A note from alan:

A little more on these two issues. Last night, with the fresh setup, I was
able to go out of wifi range (the signal indicator on the screen turned red
and it stopped responding) and the controller was able to reconnect by the
time I got back to my desk. However, when I did the same thing this
morning it would not reconnect.

And, before leaving last night I created a playlist using the + button on
the controller. When I came back to the office this morning the music was
still playing, but the now playing screen was stuck at song 26 - which was
not the song playing. Further, the controller was non responsive until I
pulled the battery and rebooted.

Alan: what make/model wireless router do you have?

Comment 6 Chris Owens 2008-02-23 09:37:08 UTC
So I see a Squeezebox Classic mentioned, but I assume the range problem is with a Jive. He has both a Squeezebox Classic and a Duet that he's working with?

As I mentioned in the meeting this morning, I tried with a Linksys wrt54g, Ross's new Zyxel, and this Belkin Pre-N about 3-4 times with each going in and out of range, and it worked each time. I'd definitely be interested in what kind of router Alan has.

The playlist issue is with local music, right? Or is it with one of the music services? I'll try to repro that issue with my local music library.
Comment 7 Chris Owens 2008-02-24 13:40:31 UTC
Split off the reconnecting issue to bug 7316, changed the summary to focus on the playlist freezing issue. I wonder if this playlist freezing issue is the same as bug 7299. Could you give that a read when you get a chance, Alan, and see if it matches?
Comment 8 Chris Owens 2008-02-26 16:45:44 UTC
Alan's router is a WRT54GS v7, which we do not have. I have ordered one.
Comment 9 Chris Owens 2008-02-28 09:14:34 UTC
Remaining issue: Alan added twenty or so songs to the play list. after a half dozen
songs, the now playing screen froze but the playlist kept playing.

Try to repro.

Chris to update with his notes from yesterday.
Comment 11 Alan Smith 2008-02-29 14:27:21 UTC
update on this. Last night, I once again created an on-the-fly playlist using the + button on the controller. Now instead of the "now playing" screen freezing and the music continuing, both freeze. It froze on about song 22/31. If I push the play button, it would start playing again, but then skip back 20 seconds or so several times, then skip to the next song and play normally. After a while it will freeze again and by pushing play it goes through the above gyrations.

This will likely require a firmware change too risky to go into 7.0.1. I have the router now to reproduce.
Comment 13 Ben Klaas 2008-06-06 12:45:42 UTC
Chris, has there been any effort to reproduce this issue?

Alan, could you supply us with the firmware version on your controller? Settings->Advanced->About will list the version number.
Comment 14 Chris Owens 2008-06-19 16:26:07 UTC
This sounds like exactly the kind of bug Ross likes to reproduce.

I have been trying with the WRT54GS and so far I'm unable to reproduce this. Every time I try SBC reconnects to the network on its own without any trouble.

Alan do you still see this? Any other tips for trying to reproduce? I'll keep trying.
Comment 16 Ross Levine 2008-07-29 18:27:21 UTC
By the way the networking issue sounds like it's a duplicate of bug 8159.
Comment 17 Alan Smith 2008-08-07 09:36:32 UTC
I've tried a couple of times on my Boom to duplicate this and cannot.

Feel free to re-open, closing this for now.
