Description Blackketter Dean 2008-02-15 14:16:32 UTC
I was instead presented with the attached screen.

This was both jive & ray connected wirelessly to my wep64 network, connecting to latest nightly 7.0 SC.

Happened 2 out of 3 tries. Trying again.

I have been unable to reproduce this beyond a couple of times out of 50 or so. QA folk, please keep an eye out for this.

The one additional time I was able to reproduce was by backing out of the Upgrade offer screen and back to home, then choosing a different player. Once or twice I was _not_ offered the upgrade automatically and saw the screen attached.
Comment 3 Andy Grundman 2008-02-18 09:40:05 UTC
If you can reproduce, get a network.cometd=DEBUG log of when you push into a player and fail to get an update screen.
Comment 4 Chris Owens 2008-02-18 09:41:39 UTC
Steven, could you have a look at this one? Dean is quite concerned about it. Please speak with Dean to make sure you are reproducing correctly.

apologies if I sounded flippant on the phone about this...obviously OOBE is a big deal. I got the impression that Dean's environment/situation was very atypical, but let's see if it can be reproduced elsewhere.

Since there was some discussion of whether Dean had more than one player associated with his SN account, one possible test case here would be to setup a jive/ray, then setup another ray (i.e., the basic steps a user that purchases 1xSBC and 2xSBR might go through). That's probably a good testcase to run regardless of this bug...

Just to be clear, this wasn't connecting to SN, it was connecting to my local SC. There were other players connected to the player at that time.
Comment 7 Blackketter Dean 2008-02-18 15:43:15 UTC
Moving to SC, since this is in the MP firmware.

I'd like to spend some quality time on this bug this morning. This is the test I intend to run:

setup:
a. up-to-date SC with connected players
b. Ray downgraded to MP firmware and factory reset
c. Jive downgraded to MP firmware and factory reset

test:
1. plug in Ray
2. power up Jive

Expected behavior--
1. Jive goes through setup screens
2. Jive sets up Ray
3. Jive upgrades itself
4. Ray upgrades itself

Does that sound about right?
Comment 9 Blackketter Dean 2008-02-19 07:08:15 UTC
That sounds about right. The only difference I had was that I had a fresh from the factory box. One was supposed to be sent to you. Did you get it, Ben?
Comment 10 Ben Klaas 2008-02-19 08:12:28 UTC
No, I never got anything. Any chance a tracking number can be procured?

I've gone through the steps to recreate this twice and failed to reproduce it both times. Will continue trying.

I start with a fw 18 Ray in setup mode (blinking Red), Jive that's been loaded with MP firmware and then factory reset, and a wireless network running 64bit WEP. SC is running an connected to other players, and once jive/ray connects to it, SC offers up fw 22 to Ray and most-current fw to Jive.

I just went through setting up four factory fresh duets and was presented with the Software Update screen each time. I have also walked though setting up a jive and ray with MP firmware dozens of times and have not seen the reported behavior. I will keep an eye on this and try with additional configurations. In the meantime I am assigning this one back to Dean in hopes that he will be able to reproduce and report the conditions under which this occurs.

Marking this unreproducible until it can be reproduced. Please reopen if you see it again.
Comment 13 Ben Klaas 2008-02-20 10:11:41 UTC
My "factory fresh" Duet upgraded without hitch across a 64bit WEP wireless network. SBR upgraded to fw22, followed by SBC prompted for upgrade. It upgraded successfully to current firmware.

mmm...factory fresh
