Bugzilla – Bug 7030
MAC address sticker in Jive remote is wrong
Last modified: 2008-05-15 12:25:02 UTC
This isn't a hardware bug per se, but I couldn't figure out an appropriate component. Today I received a package with a Receiver and an updated Jive remote. My wireless network is locked down by MAC address, so I added the remote's MAC address to the access point, based on the sticker in the battery compartment. Unfortunately, this sticker appears to have no correlation to reality - the access point didn't allow the remote to connect. Finally I turned off access control on the base station long enough for the remote to connect; then I went to the remote's About screen and determined that its MAC address was, in fact, completely different from what the sticker reported. After adding the correct MAC address to the access point, I was able to connect the remote normally.
Rich, can you say what MAC address was printed on the label vs what was in the FW?
The About screen reports a MAC address of 00:13:E0:A3:FA:A6. The sticker in the battery compartment says 00:04:20:1A:03:6D. My old unit's About screen reports a MAC address of 00:13:E0:A1:43:97. The sticker in its battery compartment says 00:04:20:1A:00:DC.
The MAC address on the sticker and the one actually being used differs on my updated Controller, too (only one nibble, IRRC). I'll supply the details tonight. Wouldn't it be a good idea to show the MAC address in the UI while setting up networking? I reckon that several users have a MAC address filtered wireless setup. Should I add this request to #5291? Isn't the standard procedure this: switch on Jive, start setting up the network, remember about the MAC filter, power off, remove battery, note down MAC, insert battery, configure router, power on Jive, ... it would have been very convenient for me if the MAC address had been displayed in the UI :-)
My Jive uses : 00:04:20:1a:04:dd The sticker says: 00:04:20:1a:04:dc Is that an offset of on sticker?
Moving from the old 'jive hardware' product to the new 'Squeezebox Controller' product.
Philippe: You will need to RMA that unit so we can correct the MAC address.
(In reply to comment #6) I don't mind if the sticker is wrong. I just wanted to let you know it. - flip
