Description Matt Wise 2008-02-07 10:23:24 UTC
Scanning songs on the ReadyNas NV+ takes way too long ... my collection of almost 3000 songs has taken over 20 hours so far:

Directory Scan (2787 of 2787) Complete 00:48:22
Playlist Scan ( of ) Complete 00:05:27
Merge Various Artists (803 of 803) Complete 00:03:19
Artwork Scan (840 of 840) Complete 19:19:07
Database Optimize (0 of ) Running 00:00:12

The majority of the time is in the artwork scan ... but even the Directory Scan takes quite a long time.

48 minutes is reasonable for a scan. Granted, it seems long for 3000 songs, but i don't expect much from a NAS. My 12k library takes about 45 mins on a dual core athlon.

The artwork scan doesn't make much sense. It should be quicker than folder scan certainly, but is becoming more of a problem with the demand for supporting every format and corrupt image that you can imagine. Do you have any non-default artwork settings in play (art filename, folder)? Are you primarily using tags or discrete files for artwork?

The artwork scan is creating 4 different thumbnails for each of the 840 cover images. Still, 20 hours is way too long. Can you get a scan.import log, it will show how slow it is for each resize operation.

this should be fixed/worked around by change 17425
Comment 4 Matt Wise 2008-02-14 10:02:03 UTC
For now, we'll call this fixed by using the 'Resized' option in the config file. We may change this going forward, but we have a reasonable work around.

The implementation we have now for ReadyNas is working. Closing bug, if you feel strongly please reopen the bug and add your comments.
