Bugzilla – Bug 6994
Problems connecting WPA and WPA2 to Netgear WNR3500
Last modified: 2008-05-15 12:27:37 UTC
Hi Felix, Sam Feng of Netgear just dropped off a router which doesn't work in either WPA TKIP or WPA2 AES modes. Would you like us to do a capture with our ethereal box, as we used to do with Richard? This also affects the SB3. (Probably the Transporter as well, although I didn't test it) This isn't going to happen until after the SC7 release anyway, but let us know. Thanks.
Which fw was used on the SB3? It would be interesting if you see a difference between fw 85 and fw 86 as in fw 86 the GTK renewal fix is.
It was fw86 on the SB3.

Verified this is indeed an issue with Transporter. SB3 connects fine with no encryption or WEP. SSID of WNR3500 is fenghome, SB2 (fw 86) I'm trying to connect from is 05 CA C7.
Sam reports fw 81 demonstrates the same failure.
Ok, so I guess it is not my recent change. What are the settings on the router in respect of the encryption? WPA2, WPA or both together at the same time? Also, is there a manual (pdf) showing the possible combinations of the settings? I was not able to find one on Netgears support page. Thanks.
Sam was reporting the problem with the router's "WPA + WPA2" mode, but I was able to see the problem (with FW86) on WPA and WPA2 modes separately.
Indeed finding the manual on netgears site is painful if at all possible. Does this help at all: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101675.asp setup manual: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNR3500_SM_26Nov07.pdf
Support has a customer with this router, cc'ing Anoop.
Hi, In any setting on the WNR3500 I have connectivity issues. Went back to an old linksys box for now that has problems with time warner. Jeff
Jeff thanks for joining us. Please see comment #4. We've verified the bug regarding WPA connection issues, however several of us have had no trouble with the WNR3500 using no encryption or WEP64/128. Did you get a chance to try WEP? I think WEP would be a decent workaround for you until we manage to resolve this bug. Might be better than the Linksys with the Time Warner complication you mentioned.
Hi, I tried the WNR3500 with no encryption. It will connect, but won't beable to find the DHCP and will self assign an IP address and then not find the slimserver. This happened with WEP at 128. With no encryption it connects for a while and then in a while drops. So far no problems with the linksys. Other then then the drop issue with Road Runer. On the positive side my transporter sounds much much better then the five year old marantz pro-cdr machine that I have been using to play my CDs. Most of my CDs on that player seemed to sound very thin, and I almost always just wound up playing my old LPs. Nice improvement on my B&W800s and 7b-sst bryston set up. Just be nice to get the netwroking the the netgear working. Thanks, Jeff
Fixed in SB fw 88, TR fw 37, SBR fw 23
Verified fixed with Netgear WNR3500 and 7.0.1 - 19251.
This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1 Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug. To download this version, please navigate to: http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html
